Hello ELS families!
September has been a fun filled month. The beautiful weather has allowed us to go outside almost everyday! We have gone on scavenger hunts, collected leaves for an art project, walked on the path during relaxation and PE. The fresh air is always refreshing.
Students have enjoyed reading and learning about the weekly News-2-You topics. News-2-You is a weekly newspaper for beginning readers and special needs students. Every week, students connect with the world through concise symbol-supported news articles, puzzles, games and recipes. A favorite topic this month was Food Trucks! The class made delicious sweet potato fries during cooking that week!
During class read aloud, we read the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Students loved making giant Wonka chocolate bars with golden tickets during Adaptive Art class. We also got to watch part of the movie!
Our class has been participating in Adapted Physical Education (APE) each week on Monday and Friday for 30 minutes. This is a very popular class for peers to join! Students who signed up gave up their recess to join our class during APE. A favorite activity this month was t-ball!
Last week the class practiced safety drills. We practiced a severe weather drill, a fire drill, and a lockdown drill. Everyone did great with the change in routine!
Last week we also had a special Fun Friday activity with students from Ms. Peterson’s class. 10 students joined us for an adapted Rock, Paper, Scissors tournament and a group dance session. It was a blast!!!
This week we have our first community trip! We are going to Wagner Farm. Please send your child with $5 for the trip. We will be practicing greeting each other this week and learning about farm animals to prepare for the trip.
